When I met with the owner, I really wanted more space. I tried to negotiate for a couple of the warehouse areas but it became clear that we were just too far apart in price. So Josh and I began to wonder if only one of the warehouses would work. Perhaps later, when we grow, we could seek to come to agreement on the other space. The space we really needed is only about 5,000 square feet on the first floor. The worship area seats about 180. It has a nice kitchen, a larger area for coffee/fellowship, a couple of offices, restrooms and nursery area. As much as we tried to make it work, we just couldn’t quite figure out how to make it work. Then when I got home from the meeting, I remembered that the owner had said part of the building was made so a second story could be added. That would bring the building to 6,200 sq feet and just enough.
I called together a group of the men from Axis and gave them the details. The overwhelming response of the group was, “we are IN, you know this. We are willing to continue to get to the RAVE at 7:30am and set up. We are happy to work hard and serve, but if you are telling us we can get our own space for the next 2-4 years and we don’t have to set up EVERY weekend, sign us up.” I asked the quys how much money they thought we could raise because I knew the buildout was going to cost us. The consensus around the table was $30,000. This included build out, chairs and flooring.
I took the guys to the site and we just gathered together and prayed that if God wanted us there, that he would open the doors.
